I felt very conflicted about coming to the 50th reunion as I have lived out of state since 1972 and have not attended any of the other reunions. But, I thought this might be the last time I have the chance to be among so many people who went through the same experiences of school in the Robbinsdale area.
I was a quiet, shy girl who couldn't join in after school clubs as I was needed at home to help care for younger siblings.
I worked for two years after high school to save money to be able to attend the University of Minnesota from 1968-1972. It was there I received my Bachelor of Science degree to become an elementary school teacher. Teaching was great. It was the only job I ever had that gave you so much independence. What was to be taught was set but how you accomplished that end was your decision.
Through the years I added a Reading Specialist Credential and a Master's Degree in Administration. The reading background has been my most treasured knowledge. I still use it with volunteer work at a local school since I retired a few years ago. I enjoy my home, friends, family and not living by a clock.
