After several years in France, I had returned to Minneapolis and attended the 1986 RHS reunion as a well-tanned mailman with the US Postal Service. A stroke of luck in 1988 took me to Washington and the USPS international department. In another stroke of luck, I was named in 1991 to a position at the United Nations agency in charge of postal treaties in Bern, Switzerland. International negotiation, writing and diplomacy suited me well and I eventually became a senior director. I retired last year and now live in France with my wife Françoise. We have two children - a daughter living in England and a son in Geneva - and three grandchildren. Life continues to be full of pleasant surprises.
